Find Your Own Balance
There is no magic diet that makes you a better runner; no superfood found deep in the rainforest that cuts minutes off your half marathon time. If there was, who among us as runners, would not be implementing it?
Less is More
Blog Update from Running Ambassador Sarah Monte I know this makes me a minority in sports, but fancy equipment has never really been my thing. I started running long distance in a pair of old Chuck Taylors, but as I ran more often and longer distances I saw the value of a good pair of dedicated running shoes. Over the years I have learned what equipment I think is worth spending good money on. Sneakers (aka ‘tennis shoes’ here in Tennessee!) are definitely my most coveted and highly priced item. Let me just talk about feet for a bit (sorry). I had horrible bunions most of my running years. I finally had surgery on both of them over two successive years and it is one of the best things I have ever done for myself. I have so many more options for sneakers and don’t have excruciating pain during and…

Dodging Winter Setbacks
Blog Update from Running Ambassador Sarah Monte I am supposed to be writing about the challenges of running in the cold weather of winter, but this month cold weather hasn’t really been an issue. The challenges have been severe rain storms, unseasonably hot weather, the threat of allergies, running after work and getting chased by loose dogs. Let me explain how I’ve adapted to these difficulties! The weather here lately in Tennessee has been unseasonably warm and very rainy. I have done a few runs in the rain, but longer runs in the rain aren’t fun with wet shoes and chafing clothing. The warm weather has also been a challenge. When you are used to training in seasonably cold weather and it hits 80 degrees, your body is not ready for it. I ventured out on a long run and was bright red and dehydrated by the time I finished.…
Begins Here
Blog Update from Running Ambassador Chris Stuchko The email arrives in your inbox and it feels like Christmas morning for runners. The subject line reads “Download the Official St. Luke’s Training Plan.” It is at this moment when you know it is happening and there is no turning back. The anticipation is there. The following Monday, and for the next 14 weeks, your running life is scheduled out for you in great, easy-to-follow detail. It’s time to get down to business and begin training for the 2018 St. Luke’s Half Marathon! When you are reading this, you may be a full week into your training, months into your training, or gasp, not training much at all. But no matter where you are, it is so important to remember to get out on the roads or on the treadmill and put in the work. There are many times when you regret…
My Winter Training Begins
The cold, dark days of winter make it difficult to motivate to do anything let alone go out and run but soon spring will be here and it always feels great to have a solid base of training to help enjoy running on those warmer days.

Race Bandit Policy Adopted
The LVRR Board of Directors has adopted a Race Bandit Policy which is now in effect. A race bandit is any runner taking part in a race without the permission of the race directors, which can include but is not limited to joining the race field without registering, or running with another runner’s bib on. Lehigh Valley Road Runners has adopted the following policy in regards to runners banditing any and all of our events: Race bandits will be banned from all LVRR events for a period of one year. If caught wearing a bib that is not your own, both parties will be banned from all LVRR events for a period of one year. By turning a blind eye to this ongoing problem we are in effect condoning this behavior. For the past couple of years we have allowed bib transfers and race deferments for the St. Luke’s Half…
