The Day That Running Kicked My Butt
Blog Update from Running Ambassador Chris Stuchko
Dodging Winter Setbacks
Blog Update from Running Ambassador Sarah Monte I am supposed to be writing about the challenges of running in the cold weather of winter, but this month cold weather hasn’t really been an issue. The challenges have been severe rain storms, unseasonably hot weather, the threat of allergies, running after work and getting chased by loose dogs. Let me explain how I’ve adapted to these difficulties! The weather here lately in Tennessee has been unseasonably warm and very rainy. I have done a few runs in the rain, but longer runs in the rain aren’t fun with wet shoes and chafing clothing. The warm weather has also been a challenge. When you are used to training in seasonably cold weather and it hits 80 degrees, your body is not ready for it. I ventured out on a long run and was bright red and dehydrated by the time I finished.…
Begins Here
Blog Update from Running Ambassador Chris Stuchko The email arrives in your inbox and it feels like Christmas morning for runners. The subject line reads “Download the Official St. Luke’s Training Plan.” It is at this moment when you know it is happening and there is no turning back. The anticipation is there. The following Monday, and for the next 14 weeks, your running life is scheduled out for you in great, easy-to-follow detail. It’s time to get down to business and begin training for the 2018 St. Luke’s Half Marathon! When you are reading this, you may be a full week into your training, months into your training, or gasp, not training much at all. But no matter where you are, it is so important to remember to get out on the roads or on the treadmill and put in the work. There are many times when you regret…
My Winter Training Begins
The cold, dark days of winter make it difficult to motivate to do anything let alone go out and run but soon spring will be here and it always feels great to have a solid base of training to help enjoy running on those warmer days.

I have been doing this half marathon since 1999 when it was the Rodale Press Half Marathon. Throughout the years I have lived in many different places and always made it a priority to come home to run this race. My immediate family still live in the Lehigh Valley and it’s always nice to come home and spend time with them while I’m there for the race. I currently live in Tennessee and this past year’s race I ran it with my boyfriend for his first half marathon! I have run this race in as fast as 1:47 and as slow as 2:45. I’ve had foot surgeries only months before the race and I’ve even run it with a broken foot! I’ve trained hard for PR’s and also run it on little to no training at all. Over the years it has become more important to me to run consistently…

I am a 35-year-old father to three wonderful children – Cole (9), Grace (7), Joy (4). I am a husband to a wonderful wife, Jen, for 10 years, nearly 11 at the start of the 2018 race. I am teacher at Emmaus High School. I have been in a classroom for 13 years helping students who have challenges, obstacles, and hardships overcome and grow to become productive members of the community. I am an avid listener of podcasts and user of social media. Whether listening to stories about reaching goals, finding mastery, running your best race, or learning about the newest trends in the world, I am always attempting to better myself and become a more well-rounded person. But the one thing that brings all of those different aspects of my life together is this – I am a runner. 2017 marks my 10th year of running races. I have…
Meet Our 2018 Running Ambassadors
We are thrilled to announce our 2018 St. Luke’s Half Marathon Running Ambassadors. In August, we put a call out to our runners in search of a Running Ambassador to represent the St. Luke’s Half Marathon and share their personal journey to the starting line on April 22, 2018. What we didn’t tell you is that we also solicited our Legacy Runners to participate. (A Legacy Runner is someone who has run our race every year since 2001. You can find a list of our Legacy Runners, here.) We had such a great response from both groups and it was very difficult limiting our choices. Really, any of you who wrote in would have made a great selection! Forced to choose, we present our 2018 Running Ambassadors.
