Allentown Designated as Runner Friendly Community by RRCA
Neal Novak and Brian Patterson were very busy in June working tirelessly to certify Allentown as a Runner Friendly Community via Road Runners Club of America. We were notified last night of our new designation as an RRCA Runner Friendly Community. What does that mean? This is directly from the RRCA website: Runner Friendly Communities have shown that they meet the program’s criteria, which includes community infrastructure, community support and local government support for running. Each community has shown they have an infrastructure that can foster physical activity in a safe environment. They have a proven track record that organizations and businesses work together to promote running as a healthy exercise and sport. With the most important criteria being, there are positive relationships between the running community and local government. A big thank you not only to Brian and Neal, but to those we used as references and to the…

Race Bandit Policy Adopted
The LVRR Board of Directors has adopted a Race Bandit Policy which is now in effect. A race bandit is any runner taking part in a race without the permission of the race directors, which can include but is not limited to joining the race field without registering, or running with another runner’s bib on. Lehigh Valley Road Runners has adopted the following policy in regards to runners banditing any and all of our events: Race bandits will be banned from all LVRR events for a period of one year. If caught wearing a bib that is not your own, both parties will be banned from all LVRR events for a period of one year. By turning a blind eye to this ongoing problem we are in effect condoning this behavior. For the past couple of years we have allowed bib transfers and race deferments for the St. Luke’s Half…

Club Philanthropy
A question was recently asked of the LVRR, “Where does my entry fee go?” Perhaps it is the fault of the Club that we should better communicate where our finances go. Let’s consider that we, you the Club, endows seven scholarships each year, add to that the huge amount of grants that the Club provides to various youth groups, not to mention the stipends doled out to the organizations that provide service that helps the half marathon function. Thrown on top of that, we have to place the cost of our free Youth Run and Kid’s Series that has thousands of participants. The figure is not just blown smoke but is concise. Every penny can be accounted for. In 2016, the total amount of club philanthropy was $92,000.

LVRR scholarship committee members presented the award winners with their checks following Wednesday’s 5K. Again, we would like to thank all of those who applied and wish you the best of luck in your college endeavors.
